Forensic Advocacy Program
SCVP is proud to offer the community forensic advocacy services through our Forensic Advocacy Program! Forensic advocacy is the collection of evidence and related services. When an adult or child who has recently been a victim of sexual or domestic violence, we can assist them by collecting both disclosure and medical evidence.
We offer collection of disclosure evidence by trained interviewers. Our interviewers can have one interview with the survivor so they they do not have to repeat their story over and over.
We can also collect medical evidence. Our certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner will perform forensic exams and collect Physical Evidence Recovery Kits for sexual violence victims. Our SANE can also perform forensic exams for domestic violence victims who wish to collect medical evidence.
Without a Forensic Advocacy Program in our area, victims are receiving limited access to services that are vital in evidence collection. Our FAP will offer trauma-informed, coordinated collection of evidence. Our providers are trained in evidence collection and forensic best practices. We offer a calm, comforting environment where we can treat those seeking forensic services as our top priority. Most exciting of all, we can offer these services close to home, right here in Southside Virginia.
After the evidence collection is complete, we can continue to serve the survivor by providing on-going case management, long-term counseling, and court accompaniment.
Interviewing beginning July 1, medical evidence beginning October 1. Serving Prince Edward, Lunenburg, and Mecklenburg counties (with the hope of expanding).
