Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is celebrated every year in April, along with National Child Abuse Month and Sexual Awareness Month. This week is dedicated to learn about victimization, the effect victimization has on individuals, families, friends and the community, and to promote laws, policies, and programs to help victims of crime. Every year, thousands of communities across the nation honor the dedication of those before us that established victims’ rights and renew commitment to guarantee that all victims have the rights and services they need to recover from crime.
This year’s theme—Honoring Our Past. Creating Hope for the Future— celebrates the progress made those before us as we look to a future of crime victim services that is even more inclusive, accessible, and trauma-informed.
This evening will focus on paying tribute to victims, survivors, their families and friends, law enforcement personnel, congressional representatives, community leaders, and supporters.
